PAINTING STATEMENT

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is pieces.

Forcibly separated disembodied pieces yearn for wholeness, gravitating toward one another through time and consciousness.

The process is one of resistance, feminine punk rebellion, in protest and resolution of this elemental wrong.

My art is fragmented and layered, reflecting reassembly of isolated pieces into newly formed entities.

Through imperfect repair these individual fragments achieve fusion and regeneration via resistance, exhibiting these phenomena in vision, language, and sound.

The cumulative process of drawing with paint, layering instruments, and structuring syntax creates independently forged beings.

This forced separation and its defiant resolution is rooted in the earliest theft of self, the commodification of human life at its origin, a collective core injury to kindred femininity.

When a person enters the world already subject to transaction, exchange, and displacement, the self degrades to a disjointed and performative negotiation.

Deficient existence depends on a staged, externally authored reality.

Sunk below this theater are remnants longing for cohesion and resurrection in the absence of hope and truth.

In my work, the whole has been reconstructed from pieces, with Humpty Dumpty consequences.

Full resurrection is not possible.

The forged self is forever altered.

What emerges from this alchemy is not recovery of the original, but others birthed imperfectly as patched paintings, music, and narratives.

These forged forms are vast and omnipresent, untethered from their historical confines yet fiercely grounded in hard-won selfhood.

My work lives in that space and in its inevitable outcome.

These visual and auditory punk acts of feminine defiance exist as a reclamation of the aggrieved, a necessary remedy to recalibrate the world.

I am interested in the physical act of drawing with paint.

The cumulative drawing-painting act composes via the synthesis and segmentation of figures, colors, and patterns.

Linked with the paintings’ subjects, this act invokes feminine punk ideals of rebellion.

The subjects inhabit fractured phantom bodies in dynamic resistance against forced theft of self.

They are alchemized by paint as uniquely omnipresent others.
